Federal Association of Hearing-Impaired Students and Graduates

The Federal Association of Hearing-Impaired Students and Graduates (Die Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Hörbehinderter Studenten und Absolventen - BHSA) acts as a self-help group to support the hearing impaired during their academic studies and their professional careers later on. Among the host of activities offered by the association are courses on communication training, introductory seminars and regular events such as the Annual Board and Active Members Team Meetings. The BHSA was founded in 1986 and currently has about 300 members.

The BHSA is the port of call for many people and organisations as it deals with questions on the problems hearing-impaired students face in their daily lives. The BHSA is one of the few organisations to work with all groups of hearing impaired people (those hard of hearing, deaf (from birth and later on in life), CI (cochlear implant) users, etc.)

In addition to counselling services and exchanging information, the BHSA is also involved in political activities, such as the campaign for the national recognition of the German Sign Language. The BHSA is a member of several major Disability Organisations in Germany.
